Mark is a young Flemish man. He was one of the leaders of the gay movement in Brussels. He and his friends were planning a demonstration against the new Roman Catholic archbishop, who is publicly against same-sex sexual activity.

Three days before he and his boyfriend were involved in a serious motor cycle accident.

Mark is now totally paralyzed and blind. He can hear but cannot speak, and communicates through just two fingers. Needless to say his boyfriend has already left him and is off with another man.

Our Sister Vitalina (our fiery little nun-hermit known to readers of “mmekourdukova”) has just visited him in hospital. She’s a tough cookie, but if anyone can get through to Mark, she can.

It’s easy to react cheaply, and to pray cheaply, in this sort of situation. It looks like the Lord has hit hard, unusually hard. Mark must be pretty much in hell. But I sense that this is not the end of the story…  A story that Sister Vitalina and others of us will have to find the right prayer, and the right words, for.

If you feel able to pray for him, privately or in your liturgies, please do. He is a baptized Roman Catholic.
