De retour de la France (back from France)

We got back last night from France. I don’t have the exact figure, but we drove at least 2500 kilometres over 7 days. We had gone in quest of the best early medieval frescoes in France, which had us zigzagging from near Chartres to Puy-en-Velay, mostly over long and empty French secondary roads, which in daytime and if you are not tired are much more fun to drive than motorways. We managed to access 14 out of the 15 churches we wanted to see, plus visit Chartres Cathedral and the site of former Abbey of Cluny. The weather was clement, turning sour on us literally after we left the last church on the list – and then really sour…
For me it was back to old hunting grounds. France has played a large part in my spiritual life, and a lot of it came back.
It is going to take a bit of time to digest, but I will continue.
For the pictures (we were able to photograph in all churches but one - the best), I recommend the site of mmekourdukova aka my wife Irina.
