I was glad when they said unto me...

Returning home to Brussels from Paris last Tuesday I stopped off in Senlis. It’s just off the motorway, a few kilometres to the north of Charles de Gaulle airport. An old-fashioned small town, with a small cathedral which I like particularly. It looks a bit run-down outside, and lacks the grandeur of many Ile-de-France cathedrals, but inside you feel that it is a place that is loved. The chairs, many of them new, are in neat rows. The stained glass, though not absolutely top quality is clean (always a good sign) and the paintings and statues are clearly marked as to whom they depict, who produced them, and when. There is an attractive floral decoration around the altar. For once there is no piped music and the clock in the bell tower is on time.
I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord. (Psalm 121)
