Ordination - stop press

Here are my two favourite pictures of my ordination as deacon today. It was a happy occasion ... in the middle of a snowstorm. The bishop is Archbishop Simon of Brussels and Belgium. My particular thanks to my wife who coached my Russian and Slavonic into sufficient shape to use both today without too much damage, and to our two Protodeacon Alexanders for their guidance and patience.

Thank you. One thing at a time. Two things are important right now. One is learning to be an active, vocal part in liturgy. For the past five years, as a sub-deacon, it has been carrying candles at the various entries, dikerii and trikerri when the bishop has been here and making sure altar boys are in the right place at the right time. Now I go 'live'. The other is my 'outside' church job of relations with the other confessions, which is going to take a lot of time over the next 24 months (we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Orthodoxy in Belgium in 2012) for which the deacon rank is very helpful.
